Sunday School

There are several people who are interested in discussing the question of whether or not there is interest in, or a need to begin some type of Sunday mornng Bible study program. In a more traditional setting, it might be called Sunday School. We have not done anything like that at RZCC, preferring to use small groups during the week for that sort of study. What are your thoughts?
Perhaps we can get a discussion going as to the pros and cons of such a move.
Feel free to use this forum to share your ideas.

I really think we need to educate those who are attending the RZ and want to learn more about Christianity. I feel it is our responsibility to do so, and to do it in a way that makes sense - which meeting on Sunday mornings before church makes sense...I would love some discussion on this idea...

We like to use Sunday for relaxing with family so I prefer weeknight meetings. And it seems so much more personal and focused.

In responce to anonymous - this won't be in place of anything during the week (although I do have one Bible study that happens on Thursday nights and while there are usually 5-7 of us there, only one couple besides Robin and I come to it)...it is just another opprotunity for someone who wants to know more to learn more about Jesus, theology, ect. I have had others state that during the week is better for them,I am thinking of those who might not be at the RZ yet, or have just started attending. This would also be a good way to have membership classes for those who want to become members of the RZ...have a great day! OBD

OBD, are you envisioning an "all church" type of activity or the addition of a small group activity during a Sunday am time frame?

Thanks,
Jim

I am not envisioning an "all church" kind of thing, but a small group that meets before church on Sundays - and I think Kim is correct -I out to see if anyone is interested...but I favor the before church time slot because of having to be here early anyway to get the heat going (by 11am, during hte winter anyway, I have already been at the barn for 4 hours). While my Thursday night study is growing, I am not seeing the new Christians there - I would like to set Sunday at 9am aside for small group for the Alex and Mavericks and then let this evolve into a pre-baptism type of class. Reguardless of whether it is before or after, there is likely going waiting for the person in class - and hopefully they will join us...did that make sense? OBD

Another question I have is how this might affect other Sun a.m. activities. I know that at one time there was thought that this might affect band rehearsals. It seems to me that if we are talking about a small group meeting, that it really shouldn't affect the band. Is that how others are seeing it?

(I will type slower so that the words get typed coreectly this time)...I think you are right Jim, those that are in the band aren't going to be the ones coming - I would like to discuss this for another week and next Sunday let folks know what we are thinking about and get a hand count to see how many (if any) would commit to being here at 8:45 for SS in the basement for an hour. Hey! I'm sick of frosting my hair but can't stop now!
I'm still all about the weeknight groups.

(I as well don't frost my hair)...I would just like to start with Christianity 101. If we get done with that and those attending want to continue, I can see using a book like RC Sprouls' Essential Doctrines of the Christian Faith, or something like that (it is basically systematic theology simplified) as a Christianity 201 class. If those that are attending don;t want to continue, then we wait either for a couple of months or until we get more "newby's" in and do the Christianity 101 again.

OBD.
